After more than a decade working in environmental health, risk communication, and remediation liability, I kept running into the same frustrating reality: the data that tells us how much pollution we've been exposed to throughout our lives exists — it's just buried in government databases that most people will never find.
I hold a PhD in Environmental and Natural Resources Policy from SUNY-ESF, where my research focused on pollution accounting, dispersion modeling, quantitative risk assessment, and epidemiology. I also hold an MPA from the Syracuse University Maxwell School of Public Administration.
I spent three years as an Environmental Protection Specialist at the U.S. EPA's Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention, and served on detail as a Division Leader in the Office of Environmental Justice and External Civil Rights. I have advised attorneys and clients on CERCLA liability and toxic tort cases as an environmental litigation consultant, and prepared prospective health impact analyses for Earthjustice on proposed petrochemical developments.
My research has been published in Environmental Research Letters, including a peer-reviewed study on hazardous air pollutant exposure as a contributing factor to COVID-19 mortality in the United States. I also performed the air dispersion modeling analysis behind ProPublica's investigative reporting on proposed petrochemical facilities in Louisiana, generating 7.7 million data points using EPA's AERMOD model.
